About Dr. FLecia Thomas
A passionate believer in the power of knowing one's self, Dr. Flecia Thomas utilizes her knowledge, life and research experiences to assist others in enhancing their very existence through self-discovery and action planning. The decision to found AIMS is congruent with her vision: To permanently impact the lives of women and girls. She targets her services to yield the maximum impact for her clients.
Dr. Thomas has made her life work that of empowering others. She defines success as not only achieving her personal goals but leaving a legacy of women and girls who will do the same.
Dr. Thomas holds a Bachelor's degree in Speech Communication and a Masters degree in Counselor Education from Illinois State University, and earned her doctorate in Counselor Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
She has held various administrative positions at the following higher education institutions: Northern Illinois University, Cornell University, Washburn University, Bradley University, University of Illinois at Chicago, Arizona State University, and McHenry County College. She is currently Dean of Student Development at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake, Illinois. During her tenure at Bradley University she served as an adjunct faculty member in the Educational Leadership and Human Development Department.
Dr. Thomas has given workshops and presentations to large and small groups, and presented at local, regional and national conferences.
Her volunteer work includes, but is not limited to serving on various Boards of Directors in the communities where she has resided. Some of her volunteer experiences include participating in the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce: 2010 Leaders in Action program gave her the inspiration to be a speaker in for the 2011 leaders in Action series while volunteering on the planning committee. In 2013, she volunteered with "On Angel Wings" Rescue Animal Shelter and Thrift Shop. In 2014, she volunteered on the planning committee of the Crystal Lake Chamber "Women Building Working Relationships Committee."
Dr. Thomas has held membership in various community service organizations: e.g., as a Board of Directors for Affinity Community Services, Leadership Illinois, class of 2006; Recipient of Illinois Consortium for Educational Opportunity Program (Fellowship for her Ph. D. work), Chi Sigma Iota, Beta Phi Chapter (honorary society), Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and she is a single parent of three adopted daughters.
Dr. Thomas recently completed 40 hrs of Mediation training through the Center for Conflict Resolution (CCR), a Chicago-based non-profit organization. "The Center provides our client base with quality mediation services regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class or socioeconomic status, age, religion, national origin, disability, professional background or other characteristics."
